One of America's best selling small trucks, the Ranger has a great reputation for being fun to drive, sharp looking and well built. Besides the Dodge Dakota and Toyota Tacoma, there aren't many pickups in this class that can match it in terms of practicality and value. The '01 Ranger reflects Ford's efforts to keep its lineup fresh and current. The cab was widened and body panels were eliminated to create a more aerodynamic package. Its frame was updated with fully boxed frame rails ahead of the firewall. The suspension became independent at the front, replacing the twin-I-Beam setup that had been under the Ranger since 1965. A five-speed manual transmission is standard on all four-wheel-drive models.
