Ford's F-250 Super Duty has long been the top dog in its heavy-duty truck class, but for 2005 it gained a lot of capability. The lineup gets fresh styling, a stronger V8 engine, and improved ride quality. A 6.0-liter Power Stroke diesel with 325 horsepower and 560 lb-ft of torque is attached to a five-speed TorqShift automatic transmission that offers an improved tow-haul mode. The 2005 Ford F-250 Super Duty Lariat rode on a much longer wheelbase than the standard F-150, and its chassis and suspension components were beefed up from the factory for improved towing capacity. This allowed the truck to establish class-leading numbers in towing and payload capacity, compared to the Chevrolet Silverado 2500 or Dodge Ram 2500. The F-250's interior is roomy and comfortable, with a wide range of options. Stand-alone packages include the TowCommand system, which adds an integrated trailer brake controller.
