The 2006 Toyota 4Runner is a practical, tough off-roader. Its body-on-frame construction makes it more snug than some car-based SUVs, and the suspension is tuned for off-road performance. A linked shock-absorber system called X-REAS improves on-road handling by diagonally linking the compression chambers of the rear left and front right shock absorbers, which dampen body roll and pitch in hard cornering. Skid plates are standard for the engine, transfer case and fuel tank to protect them during off-roading. Powered by a 4.0-liter V6, the 2006 Toyota 4Runner SR5 provides responsive performance. It feature a sophisticated variable valve timing setup with intelligence (VVT-i) that helps produce substantial low-end torque.
