Powered by a 2.3-liter turbocharged inline-four, the Mazdaspeed3 lays down 263 horsepower and 280 pound-feet of torque. Its engine control software links the output to steering-wheel angle, and it backs off the throttle a few percentage points to smooth out torque steer when it's centered. In addition to its impressive performance, the Mazdaspeed3 is also quite a bit more nimble than most cars in its class. It has a very smooth ride, excellent fuel economy and a first-class interior finish.
