The 2010 Subaru Forester XT blends utility, practicality and SUV-style looks in a compact, maneuverable package. It's a capable off-roader and one of the more versatile small SUVs, thanks to its ample ground clearance and Subaru symmetrical all-wheel drive. The XT trim adds a turbocharged version of the engine that's good for 224 horsepower. Subaru combines this engine with a continuously variable automatic. Fuel economy is a strong suit. The automatic gets slightly better ratings of 19 mpg city and 24 mpg. Handling is another strong suit of the Forester. Its nimble size and agile suspension make it fun to drive on winding roads. Steering feels direct and precise, and the Forester is always stable and planted when cornering. Even if the chassis does tend to lean in some tight turns, it never feels unsettled or tippy. The Forester's impressive ground clearance and rugged styling make it an ideal family car for off-road adventures. Its comfortable cabin and spacious cargo hold also help it be a great commuter.
