The 2013 Ford Escape Titanium is the flagship of the brand's family of compact SUVs. The standard powertrain is a 2.0-liter EcoBoost, which puts out 240 hp and 270 lb-ft of torque. Several drivetrain technologies are available, including an all-wheel-drive system that shuffles available torque to either end of the axle. It's 20 times faster at reacting to changes in grip, and it can be adjusted from a sport-tuned mode to a more conventional setup. Other safety equipment is plentiful, including a host of airbags and sensors, AdvanceTrac with Roll Stability Control, a backup camera and integrated blind-spot mirrors. We were particularly impressed with the BLIS blind-spot monitoring system, which identifies vehicles in its detection area. The Escape Titanium offers plenty of upscale features for the price, with leather seats, heated seats, navigation and Sync with MyFord Touch.
