The Chevrolet Volt is a plug-in hybrid that has both electric-only and gas-engine driving modes, enabling it to go up to 53 miles on pure electricity and then switch over to the gasoline engine when needed. It's also among the best rated in EPA fuel economy and offers excellent acceleration. The 2018 Chevrolet Volt is powered by an 18.4-kWh lithium-ion battery that can be charged to full capacity in under four hours with a 240-volt outlet. The battery is backed up by a 1.5-liter gas engine/generator that kicks in to power the vehicle when the battery runs out of charge or when it's too cold for the electric motor to do its job. Safety is a top priority in the 2018 Chevrolet Volt, and that's why it comes standard with a reversing camera, a 10 airbag system and a host of active safety features.
