Rivian’s first electric pickup truck, the 2022 R1T, is a genuinely remarkable vehicle. It’s fast, capable of navigating rough terrain, and the cabin is beautiful inside and out. The EV’s cabin is decked out with leather and wood, and large displays for the gauge cluster and infotainment system. It also has a big storage compartment behind the cab and a lockable in-bed storage area. One of the most intriguing features is the gear tunnel, which runs the entire width of the truck between the rear wheels and the backseats. A panoramic moonroof enhances the overall vibe, and a pair of comfortable, well-padded seats are heated. Wireless phone charging is also available, as is LTE and Wi-Fi connectivity. A 16-inch landscape-format color center screen houses most of the R1T’s infotainment and driver assistance features. Its park assist system can handle parallel and perpendicular parking, as well as hitching up a trailer. It also comes with a Gear Guard system that can secure cargo with a cut-resistant cable, so you won't have to worry about someone stealing your gear. The R1T is equipped with a suite of standard driver assists, as well as several features that may be introduced through over-the-air software updates after production begins. These include automatic emergency braking, forward collision warning, pedestrian detection, blind-spot monitoring, lane departure warning, lane-keeping assist, and a drowsiness monitor. The electric powertrain of the 2022 Rivian R1T includes four independent wheel motors and a 135-kWh battery pack. Together, these components provide 835 horsepower and 908 pound-feet of torque. On-road performance is also impressive. The R1T's independent wheel motors provide instant power and independent traction control that helps you stay planted on slippery road surfaces. It also allows the driver to adjust ride height, suspension, pedal response and all-wheel drive for different conditions. You can select from a range of drive modes, including one that optimizes for snow and another for deep sand.
